I recently got back from a wonderful trip to Ohio to photograph a gorgeous wedding day for Ian and Kina. Everything about their special day was perfect. The weather, the light, the couple who was head over heels in love with each other. Yes, I’d say that just about sums up how amazing it was!
As I chatted with Kina leading up to her wedding day, it became apparent that scheduling an engagement session prior to the wedding wouldn’t be a feasible option due to distance. It was a ten hour drive to get up to the plains of Ohio. Therefore, the decision was to plan for an engagement session on Friday evening, the day before the wedding.
Kina’s location suggestion could not have been more perfect — a beautiful spot called Mavis Island with a gorgeous view of the water and dreamy golden light. When we stepped out of the car to start shooting, my heart nearly stopped when I saw the light. That heavenly, dreamy golden goodness pouring out its warmth on the earth. I almost died. After I had recovered we proceeded to have an incredible time laughing, taking portraits, and enjoying ourselves to the fullest.
I always like to schedule an engagement session with my couples prior to their wedding day so that I can walk them through my posing system and get them warmed up in front of the camera. I’m telling you, if we hadn’t done Ian and Kina’s engagement session prior to their wedding day, they would have still been 100% pros! I hardly had to give an ounce of instruction. These two were naturals, and my camera was the happy witness.
