Beautiful Sunset Beach Portraits in Jekyll Island, Georgia

It has been my dream ever since I became a photographer to do a golden hour beach shoot! My longing came to pass when we took a weekend trip to Jekyll Island. I had been eyeing the light all day waiting for the right time to begin firing my shutter. The sun continued to dip lower and lower over the horizon and suddenly I began to panic a little. It looked like we would miss the golden glow — the light I had only dreamed about for forever. I gave Hannah no time to get ready and we rushed out to the sandy shores only to be greeted by the greatest. sight. ever. Light. Beautiful golden warm and wonderful light. The kind of light that only appears when the sun is just lowering its head for the night. You really should have seen me to understand my sheer delight. I was in photographer heaven. Hannah really enjoyed laughing at my squeals of delight and my exclamations of “This is so gorgeous!”, “This light!”, and “I’m in heaven.”

Enjoy some of my very favorites from this gorgeous golden hour beach shoot!

Joyfully,

Lauren

  1. Lauren, these are so beautiful! I honestly don’t know how you do it, but you capture the moment so perfectly and it looks so soft and clear. Maybe its just the amazing lighting or the beautiful Hannah, but honestly I think you are talented as well. 🙂 Your pictures are so perfectly relaxed and crystal clear. Is it just the camera you have that makes them turn out that way, or does it take talent as well? I’m curious because I take all our family pictures and stuff and want to know if its possible for me to take pictures like that with what I have. 🙂 Continue to use what He has given you to honor Him and Him alone!

    1. Wow, Sarah. You are so kind! Thank you, thank you for your sweet words. I’m so thankful you took the time to leave a comment!

Photography is an art and takes hours and hours of practice. It is very rewarding, but it isn’t always easy. I’ve learned SOO much over the past year.

One thing I would say is that the photographer makes the photo and not the gear. When I first started shooting a little over a year ago, I didn’t have a very expensive camera, but with the right knowledge of light and how to use my gear properly, I was able to capture beautiful imagery. I now have a better camera and lens, but I didn’t start that way, and I still shot good work (see the first engagement session on my blog of Andrey and Rachel. 🙂

I’m curious what kind of camera and lens you take your family photos with? I think that might help me answer your question a little better as to if you can get quality photos from it. 🙂

Thank you, again, for you kind words! 😍

      1. Aw, thanks for taking the time to respond! I don’t know exactly what my camera is except that it is a Canon EOS. Whatever that is. xD If you would like to help me out a bit, maybe I can email you some of my pictures I took with it in the past year or so? It’s totally fine if you are too busy. 🙂 But if you can, what email would you like me to use? Don’t feel pressure to say yes, I completely understand if you have to say no. 😀
