10 Essentials to Include for Beautiful Wedding Detail Photos

First Things First

One of the very first things I do when photographing a wedding day is shoot all the little details that the bride worked so hard to plan!

All of the fun bridal items such as her wedding dress, veil, full invitation suite, shoes, all three rings, bouquet, perfume, garter, and something blue.

A bride spends so much time picking out and gathering all her details to make her wedding day that much more special. It is one of my favorite things to capture all of the details that make each wedding day unique!

Quick Tip: Make sure to have all your details ready to go for your photographer the morning of your wedding. This makes it much easier to get started shooting without a hunt for lost items. To make it simple, combine all of the small details together in a box or gift bag and give it to your maid of honor or someone you trust to give to your photographer.

Below I go through the main details that I photograph at a wedding.

Wedding Dress

The bride will most likely have her wedding dress with her while she’s getting ready. I will find a place with lovely natural light to photograph the dress. I’ll also get those fun close ups of details like the wedding veil or bits of lace on the sleeves.

Veil

It’s always a plus when the veil and dress can be photographed together! Whether a long and flowy veil or one that’s short and sweet, it’s the perfect piece to photograph with the wedding dress.

Full Invitation Suite

This is one of the most central and important details on a wedding day! Whether there is one invitation or an entire invitation suite, it is such a sentimental piece that brings the wedding day full circle. It is also the centerpiece for photographing other details like rings and jewelry.

Bridal Details to Include in a Beautiful Flatlay for Your Photographer

All Three Rings

It is important that the bride keep all three rings to be photographed together during details. It is special to shoot the bride’s engagement ring and both wedding bands all together.

Shoes

The bride’s shoes add wonderful dimension and visual interest to the flat lay! Plus, it’s the perfect way for her to remember the shoes she wore to marry the love of her life.

Bouquet

This is another central piece that a bride gives a lot of thought and attention to. I will photograph the bride’s bouquet during the details portion of the day and also the bridesmaids’ bouquets, if available.

Perfume

This is a perfect detail for a memory and also adds a lovely addition to the flat lay.

Extra Florals

When planning florals for a wedding, it is important to ask the florist to save out several flowers or bits of greenery for the photographer to use when photographing details. It really ups the level of any look and adds beautiful pops of color to the images. Notice the difference between the two images below. The image on the left looks dull and bland while the addition of roses and hydrangeas adds beautiful depth and dimension.

Earrings and Jewelry

The bride can include an heirloom necklace, a special bracelet, earrings, or any other jewelry piece that she will wear on her wedding day.

Any Additional Heirlooms

Whether a grandmother’s necklace, something blue, or a special card from the groom, any additional details that are important to the bride should be photographed during this time. Just be sure to include them in the box of details for the photographer!

Perhaps you are a bride planning your wedding day or simply want the best tips and tricks for preparing which details to bring along. Either way, I hope this list of 10 essential items for your detail photos was helpful!

Happy wedding planning!!

Joyfully,
